b. ~1845 Pennsylvania - d. 17 Feb 1820 Shelby Co., Kentucky
Amos Chapman was born in Pennsylvania about 1745/46 before Cumberland County, PA was created in 1752. We know nothing about Amos as he grows up. Early records in Cumberland Co. name a William Chapman in 1754 and a John Chapman in1752. No real evidence has been found for the name of his father or grandfather, but deductive reasoning leads us to possibilities until more substantial proof has been found. Our Amos Chapman served in the Revolutionary War. Amos enlisted in the Continental Army during January 1776 as a resident of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and was discharged in January of 1781. He received a Pension for honorable service. He enlisted first the in 6th PA Battalion, Robert Adams Co as a private and advanced to a Sergeant on the Pennsylvania line with Capt. Adams, Bratton’s and Miller’s Companies and Col. William Irvine's 7th Pennsylvania Regiment. Amos returned to Cumberland Co, PA after his militia service and then moved to Jefferson Co., Kentucky in 1782. I might suspect he may have received a land grant for his military service, but one has not yet found. He had 4 daughters and one son born in Pennsylvania and Kentucky. But no marriage has been found for him. The administration of the Estate of Amos Chapman lists Nancy Chapman as Executrix. We suspect this is his wife in 1820, but she is too young to be the mother of his older children. No grave has been found for either Amos (died 1820) or his wife Nancy (died about 1836). Amos has a rich posterity with many descendant both known and unknown. The search is on to find his Ancestors and his Descendants.
