William Jonas "Little Bill" Chapman was born in about 1805 in North Carolina. He married Rachel who was also born in North Carolina. We know Rachel would pass in March 1880 and William would pass after 1880, as he is listed in that census, but before 1900. The family lived their lives in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Descendants can be found in the nearby counties of Rutherford, Burke, Lincoln, Catawba and Mecklenburg. Williams's descendants, in the 1800’s and early 1900’s, worked the land as farmers, served proudly in the military, and worked in the cotton fields and textile mills.

William's gggGrandson completed a Y111 DNA test and confirmed a genetic relationship to Nicholas Chapman b. 1758 in Baltimore County, Maryland and Robert Chapman b. 1707 in Baltimore County, Maryland.
