John L. “Jack” Chapman 1957-2025
MCDONALD, OHIO - John L. “Jack” Chapman, 67, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, in the comfort of his home.
John was born Dec. 27, 1957, in Newport, R.I., a son of the late Kenneth and Judith Philips Chapman, and came to the Youngstown area in 1958. He was a 1975 graduate of Girard High School and earned an associate degree in applied science from Youngstown State University. He also attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Columbus, where he earned a degree in technology.
In the 1980s, Jack worked as a self-employed carpenter in Texas and South Carolina, building homes for U.S. Homes and other companies. He returned to Girard in 1988 and founded Chapman Renovation, where he specialized in new construction and kitchen and bath remodeling until his retirement.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors, especially golf and hunting. He was an avid stamp and coin collector, loved playing darts, and was a longtime member of the Youngstown Dart Association. He also enjoyed weekly video game nights with friends, Joe and Kevin, watching classic films, and cheering for the Cleveland Indians and Browns. A curious mind, he kept up with current affairs and liked “dabbling” in the stock market.
Jack is survived by his sisters, Kathy Chapman and Karen (Frank) Cretella, both of Girard; a nephew, Frank Cretella Jr. (Nicole Birrell); a niece, Katie Cretella; and two great-nephews, Dominick and Anthony. He also leaves behind many extended family members and countless friends.
Family and friends may gather to pay respects from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at Girard First United Methodist Church 22 N. Market St. Girard, where a memorial service will take place at 6 p.m.

Gilbert “Gil” Wales Chapman 1947-2025
Gilbert “Gil” Wales Chapman, 78, passed away on April 23, 2025, in University City, Missouri. Born on January 13, 1947, in Hartford, Connecticut, he was the son of Ralph and Evelyn Chapman (née Webster). Gil grew up in Hartford and later lived in Richmond, VT; York, PA; and St. Louis, MO.
Gil is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Mary Chapman (née Richmond); daughter Tracy Chapman Granneman and her husband Paul; granddaughters Lillian and Catherine; brothers Keith Chapman and R. Leigh Chapman and their families. Gil had countless lasting friendships which he valued deeply, especially his “west coast daughter” Jeanne Chevillet and her family.
From 1967 to 1970, Gil served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed primarily in Worms, Germany—a time he reflected on with pride, often relaying the many experiences and life lessons he gained through his service. After earning a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Hartford, Gil worked at Green Mountain Power before building a career in insurance and automobile sales, most proudly as a Cadillac salesman.
Gil was deeply committed to his community, serving in various elected roles in Richmond, Vermont. Most meaningful to him, was his role on the Mount Mansfield School Board where he advocated strongly for children of all backgrounds to receive needed academic support. He had a deep appreciation for public service and felt both pride in his roles and admiration for others who had a positive impact on their community. Gil was never reticent about expressing his opinions, either spoken or in print, but respected those who didn’t see things his way and made a sincere effort to understand other points of view.
Gil loved a good conversation with friends new and old. He will be remembered for standing with a cigarette in one hand and a scotch in the other while enjoying lively discussions on politics, current affairs, economics, and almost any other topic. He approached conversations with curiosity and often shared (or re-shared) an illustrative story. He loved to make connections and often sought out those who had difficulty connecting with others, especially young people.
Gil’s greatest joy came from spending time with Mary. They loved taking car rides, socializing with friends, and their summer trips to Cape Cod. He loved his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters deeply. Tracy was always the twinkle in his eye. Lily and Catie will forever cherish their private “meetings of the minds” with him. Gil loved his dogs throughout the years and we take comfort knowing he can walk again with Yo-Yo, Murphy, and Abby.
Friends are cordially invited to greet the family during a visitation at ten o’clock in the morning until twelve o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday the 3rd of May, in the Rose Room of Lupton Chapel, 7233 Delmar Blvd., University City, Missouri 63130, followed by a Celebration of Life of “Gil” in the chapel at twelve o’clock in the afternoon.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in his honor be directed to Lolly’s Place, a program dedicated to educating children from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Patricia (Chapman) Allen 1948-2025
Patricia Allen (Chapman), age 76, of Bedford, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, in Westlake, Ohio, with her beloved son by her side.
Born on July 6, 1948, in Youngstown, Ohio, Patricia was the cherished daughter of Sara (Guillebeaux) and Ernest Chapman. A proud graduate of East High School’s Class of 1967, Patricia embodied resilience, wit, and grace throughout her life's journey.
Patricia’s career path was nothing short of extraordinary. Without a college degree but with determination, she broke gender barriers in the male-dominated energy sector. From shoveling coal to becoming a certified steam operating engineer, she rose to plant operator at FirstEnergy/Illuminating Company, coordinating multiple ground teams. Her professional success reflected her broader life philosophy: there are no shortcuts to strength, but there is always time for kindness.
A lifelong student of the world, Patricia was a passionate traveler, particularly drawn to water, cruises, and new horizons. She traveled the globe, sometimes with family and friends, often alone but never lonely, delighting in the cultures, landscapes, and connections she formed along the way. Whether it was a hotel cleaner, a waiter, or a fellow tourist, she would stop to take a photo, share a laugh, and offer a piece of encouragement which was evidenced by the numerous stories shared, as well as the photos and messages she treasured in her phone. Her openness was fearless, and her love for people boundless.
Her sanctuary, however, was her garden. Tending nearly a quarter acre by herself, Patricia turned her home into a living poem of flowers, squirrels, birds, and even fearless deer who wouldn’t budge at the sound of her mower. She declined public recognition from the City of Bedford because her garden, she insisted, was not for show, but for peace.
Patricia was unapologetically herself: sensitive, loving, fiercely protective, and wonderfully blunt. She had the energy of a storm and the softness of a sunrise. She believed life was a journey meant to be traveled with love, forgiveness, and curiosity. Her personal mantras, “I am strong, I am a warrior, I am a fighter, and I have my God,” echoed through her years and guided her courageously through her final battle with cancer.
Her greatest pride and joy was her son, Frederick Allen Jr., who remained her protector, companion, and guiding light until her last breath. Their bond was unbreakable, complex, and filled with deep love. It was love that found its way into every poem, every text, and every moment they shared. In her final hours, she even managed to take a selfie with him: one last smile, one final gesture of strength as he massaged her feet and lovingly cared for her nails. She will be deeply missed and cherished by family, friends, and even strangers who might recall "that sweet traveling lady." And yes, mom, you were right, "You can't get enough of that sugar bear, sugar bear (kiss, kiss)."
She is survived by her devoted son, Frederick Allen Jr. (Kiran) of Reminderville, Ohio; her treasured grandchildren, Aditya and Arjun; her sisters, Sarah Jane and Irene Chapman of Youngstown; her brother, Elious Chapman of Akron; her nephew Tony Chapman (Jessica) and their children Toni ReNee, Erica Tyler, Kayla, and Jalyn Chapman of Michigan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Sara and Ernest Chapman, and her brothers, Ernest, Willie, and Hardges Chapman.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 12, 2025 9:00 – 10:00 am at L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home 1951 McGuffey Road Youngstown, Ohio with service at 10:00am.

Linda May Chapman 1952-2025
With gentle hands, a creative soul, and a heart full of love, Linda Chapman, 72, of Gales Ferry, CT, passed peacefully on April 1, 2025. Born on April 7, 1952, to Audrey Beebe and John Chopp, and lovingly raised by her mother and stepfather, Henry Beebe Sr., Linda lived a life rich in imagination, compassion, and quiet magic. She was married to Warren Chapman III until his passing, and together they shared the joy of raising their daughter and building a life filled with love, creativity, and family.
In her early adulthood, Linda survived a spinal cord injury that changed the course of her life. With extraordinary strength, determination, and grit, she faced every challenge head-on—relearning how to walk, regaining her independence, and going on to raise a family. Her journey was a testament to her resilience and unshakable will. She became a quiet warrior, not only surviving but thriving, building a life full of purpose, creativity, and deep love.
A devoted homemaker and stay-at-home mom, Linda poured her love into every corner of her world. Her home was filled with the scent of fresh-baked treats, the color of hand-crafted floral arrangements, and the joy of creativity shared. She was deeply passionate about advocating for individuals with disabilities, using her voice to educate others and help build a more inclusive, understanding world. Whether she was painting, drawing, baking, gardening, or lifting up others through her compassion and advocacy, Linda made everyday life feel a little more enchanted.
She was a proud member of the Thames River Garden Club, where her love of nature and eye for beauty bloomed alongside cherished friendships. Gardening was her greatest passion—at one time, her property was filled with large, vibrant flower gardens that she lovingly tended. Even when she was no longer able to maintain her gardens outside, she surrounded herself with life indoors, filling her home with houseplants and windowsill blooms. Her green thumb and nurturing spirit brought beauty into every space she touched.
Above all, Linda loved her family fiercely. She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra Chapman; her beloved grandchildren, Jayden and Madison Chapman; and her sisters, Jeanne Delaney and Joni Chopp. She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Beebe Jr., with whom she shared a deep bond. Linda also leaves behind a circle of friends whose lives were brighter because she was in them.
One of the most cherished roles Linda ever held was that of “Grammy.” Her bond with her grandchildren was nothing short of magical. She shared countless afternoons with Jayden, watching WWE wrestling and cheering along with him as if the matches truly mattered. Madison fondly credits her own love of baking to the hours spent in the kitchen beside her Grammy, learning how to turn simple ingredients into something special. No matter the need, big or small, there was nothing Linda wouldn’t do for her grandkids. Her love for them was boundless, and she always made sure they knew they were her heart.
She now joins in peace her mother, Audrey Beebe; her father, John Chopp; her stepmother, Irene Chopp; her stepfather, Henry Beebe Sr.; her brother, Henry Beebe Jr.; and her husband, Warren Chapman III—all of whom welcomed her with open arms.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be announced at a later date. In her honor, a garden tea party will be held—just as she would have loved. Those who knew her can almost picture it already: Linda sitting at her favorite spot at the kitchen table, a warm cup of tea in hand, ready to welcome you with love and a story to share.
“She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings.”
—Ariana Dancu
Donations may be made in Linda’s memory to the Thames River Garden Club, c/o Elaine Lombardi, 198 Shore Road, Waterford, CT 06385.

Jean Marjorie (Marshall) Chapman 1932-2025
MINNESOTA - Jean Marjorie (Marshall) Chapman joined the love of her life on March 31, 2025.
Jean was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 18, 1932 to Dorothea (Petersen) and Chester Marshall. She graduated from Edison High School where she played timpani, the underlying heartbeat of the orchestra. She went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. While there, she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sisterhood. During her freshman year she saw a good-looking guy across the field and told her best friend, "I'm marrying that guy!"
Jean married John Chapman in 1953. On December 18th they were blessed to celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary.
They began their married life in Germany and explored Europe for two years. Upon their return, they settled in New Ulm, MN and welcomed their first child, Steve; followed by daughters Mary, Susan, and Sally who were born in Edina. The family lived for five years in Detroit, MI before returning to Edina. As empty-nesters, they spent four years in downtown Chicago, 20 years in Albuquerque, and then back to Minnesota for 19 years.
Jean was a master of loving, entertaining, and fun! Everyone Jean met received a hug and became a friend for life. Meeting Jean meant you were instantly welcomed into her heart and family.
Jean entertained big! She loved having her home filled with people. She kept guests well fed with gourmet food; often hosting dinner parties that became an event to never forget. She could create a festive atmosphere in a minute! She loved merrymaking. Jean played tennis for decades and dabbled with small businesses in catering and selling crafts. Just a few of her volunteer jobs included: UNICEF, Head Start, The Art Institute of Chicago, public schools, and Cub Scouts.
Jean's greatest gift was her ability to be a mom. She was a mom to her four kids and so many others who wandered into her life. As her children began to have kids of their own, they all took notes and modeled how she loved and cared for her grandchildren. Grammy genuinely knew each of her 10 grandchildren and cherished their unique personalities. Throughout her life she sacrificed to serve and uplift her family. Her family was her treasure.
Jean loved traveling; from exploring a new hiking trail, to boarding a cross-continental flight or cruising (perhaps a bit over the speed limit) by auto throughout North America.
Jean loved cabin life on Lake Pokegama; a place she spent all her summers as a child. She and John built a log cabin on the same lake property and spent their retired summers there. Truly, a family reunion all summer long. Jean started the "3rd of July" party on their cabin deck that ballooned to 50-plus people and continues to this day.
Jean was known for her hugs, bare feet, amazing hosting, and always having a tune on her lips to lift a spirit or fit the occasion. Mom was the underlying heartbeat of our family. We miss her dearly.
Jean was preceded in death most recently, in January, by her soul mate and husband John. She was also preceded by her parents, brothers Bill and Jim, sister Mary, their spouses, John's brother Bob (Carol) and sister Jane.
She is survived by her son Steve (Lisa and children John and Jason), daughter Mary (children Grant, Trent and Trace Chiodo), daughter Susan (Brad and children Erik (Tori), Anders and Bjorn) Lindstedt, daughter Sally (children Ana and Brinna Brakke), sister-in-law Ann Chapman, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Kenneth Wilson Chapman 1949-2024
Kenneth Wilson Chapman, 74, of Sabinal went to be with his Lord on Jan. 1, 2024, at his residence eight miles east of Concan following a lengthy battle with cancer.
The family is hosting a celebration of life on Feb. 3rd at 2 p.m. at the Sabinal Methodist Church.
Kenneth was born on July 16, 1949, in Hondo, to Georgia Mae Richarz and Woodrow Wilson Chapman.
He married Alice Lee Coble on Sept. 19, 1971, in Schertz, Texas. They had two sons, Lucas and Todd, with whom he delighted in sharing his knowledge and talents in everything from hunting, ranching, furniture-making, and knife-making.
During high school, he was an avid sportsman, competing in football and track. He was featured in a 1966 edition of Texas Football Magazine alongside his cousin Richard Chapman.
Kenneth took pride in coaching his oldest son Lucas to the state championship in track and field for several years; and, in turn, took joy helping Lucas coach his own daughter, Kamryn, to the state level in discus and shot put.
He was a working cowboy and helped his father raise cattle and sheep on the 700-acre farm and ranch that was originally part of his grandfather's ranch, the Oscar Richarz Sr. Ranch.
Kenneth graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville with a degree in agricultural mechanics and worked for the Texas A&M Research and Extension Center in Uvalde for about five years as an agricultural mechanic.
He later worked at Gensco's farm and ranch division before moving to Uvalco, where he spent more than 38 years. Through his work in the farm and ranch business, he became well acquainted with local farmers and ranchers, and he retired from Uvalco in March of 2023 to manage his own ranch on a full-time basis. He enjoyed wildlife management and farming.
He enjoyed working on guns and reveled in mentoring his sons in the work. Gun dealers often required his expertise of guns and ammunition when working on valuations of antique models.
He also liked to build custom mesquite furniture for buyers across Texas, and he passed the talent on to Lucas.
He shared his talent in knife-making to his youngest grandson and namesake, Will.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed trips, which included heading to Canada in pursuit of bears and moose, Alaska for caribou, and Florida for alligators. Two of his most memorable trips include one with Lucas to Alaska, where they flew into a secluded island, each bagging caribou, and seeing the aurora borealis. The other adventure was in Florida with youngest son Todd, where they each killed a 10-foot alligator. He recounted the experience in a submission to the Uvalde Leader-News Hunter's Journal story contest and won second place.
Kenneth was a member of the Sabinal Methodist Church and Sabinal Masonic Lodge. He also previously served on the Sabinal Independent School District board of trustees and on the Sabinal City Council.
He is survived by his wife Alice of 52 years, ; two sons, Lucas Boone Chapman and wife, Kimberly, of Sabinal, and Todd Allen Chapman and wife, Gabriela Andrea Badica, of Palo Alto, California; five grandchildren, Kyle Chapman and wife, Alexandra, Kristina Chapman Moore and husband, Colton, Taylor Jo Chapman, Kamryn Lee Chapman, and Kenneth Wilson “Will” Chapman; three great-grandchildren, Cash, Parker and Tripp Moore; nephew, Erin Thompson; niece, Heather Thompson; and beloved dog, Roxie.

Her life was enriched by adventure from the start. After her husband Frank graduated from Yale Architecture School, he received a Fulbright Scholarship, and the couple spent a year living in London, England. Their love of exploration took them on a unique journey camping through Europe in the back of their car—a trip for which they still have thousands of slides (almost all of them showcasing buildings) as a reminder. For their 50th wedding anniversary, Alison, Frank, and lifelong friend Michael Rubenstein—whom they had met during that Fulbright year—returned to Europe. They enjoyed a Viking Cruise through France ending the trip in Paris, with Alison proudly taking the photographs this time!
Alison devoted much of her life to education and service. In the early 1970s, she led the Parent-Teacher Association at Barnard School before advancing to the role of PTA president for the City of New Haven. She enjoyed a distinguished 30-year career as Director at School Volunteers of New Haven, influencing countless lives along the way. Under her leadership, the program flourished, growing to include 500 volunteers annually across 44 schools. She played a key role in expanding mentorship programs and fostering partnerships with Yale University and other institutions to train and place student volunteers.
Her talents and passions extended well beyond her professional work. From an early age, Alison loved acting and graced the stage of productions at Hayloft Theatre—a professional venue housed in the converted barn on her father’s horse farm. Ever self-effacing, she humorously dubbed herself the “conveniently located ingénue.” As a gifted artist, she excelled in painting with oils and watercolors, as well as sculpture and pottery. A skillful seamstress, she lovingly made many of her children’s clothes when they were young and crafted imaginative Halloween costumes ranging from Raggedy Ann to Snoopy.
Music was another of Alison’s great loves; she possessed a fine singing voice and taught herself guitar in the 1960s, developing a deep appreciation for folk music. It wasn’t a party until the guitar came out. As a young girl, she enjoyed ballet but later embraced modern dance, performing locally in New Haven.
Her clear, resonant voice lent itself to recording textbooks for the blind, making her contributions truly invaluable. Alison was also active in civic affairs, serving as president of the North End Club from 2012 to 2014 and giving her time to many volunteer activities. In 1983, she was recognized as an Elm in the Elm-Ivy Awards for her efforts to strengthen town-gown relations between Yale University and New Haven. Later, in 1987, she became the founding house mother of the Zeta Xi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma at Yale University.
Even after retirement, Alison’s energy and commitment endured. She managed her husband’s office and continued to volunteer her time. Bridge, New Haven Symphony, Long Wharf productions and gardening kept her busy. A dedicated fan of UCONN women’s basketball, she and Frank became hooked when their games started to be broadcast on Connecticut Public Television in 1994—and no one ever dared get between her and the television when the ladies were playing.
Alison is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Frank Chapman of New Haven; her son, Robert Chapman of Omaha, Nebraska (fiancée Sue Collin); her daughter, Elizabeth Chapman of Redmond, Washington; and her cherished granddaughters, Lucy Hill Chapman and Vivian Hill Chapman of Omaha. She is also survived by her brother, Richard W. Faulkner Jr. (Carol) of Lincoln, Nebraska. She was predeceased by her parents, Mildred and Richard William Faulkner of Lincoln.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, located at 2300 Whitney Avenue in Hamden, CT. A graveside service will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, with friends invited to join the family for luncheon at the New Haven Lawn Club, thereafter.
Alison Chapman’s legacy is one of service, creativity, and unwavering commitment to family and community. She enriched countless lives through her work in education, her volunteer spirit, and her artistic talents.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to: Planned Parenthood or Malta House (Norwalk, CT): Malta House Donation in Memory of Alison Ann Faulkner Chapman

Katherine Fredonne Cathey Chapman 1940-2025
Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister and friend, Katherine Fredonne Cathey Chapman, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on March 1, 2025.
Fredonne was born on December 6, 1940, the oldest child of Carrol Milton and G. Betty Sheridan Cathey in Greeley, Colorado. Her early life was lived on the family homestead on Big Gulch, northwest of Craig, near her paternal grandparents, James J. and Orah Holliman Cathey. She attended school with all the Big Gulch neighbors’ children at the Midway School near the east entrance to the ranch. It was also here that her younger siblings, twins Carrol Dean and Carolyn Videne joined the family.
The family then moved south to Hamilton, where her dad was the principal of the small school.
After a few years teaching in Hamilton, her dad took a teaching position in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and the family lived there through her middle school years, until she started high school and they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Following graduation, Fredonne moved back to Craig to live with her grandparents who had moved into town from the ranch into the house at 450 School St. She worked for a time at the Tastee Freez drive-in and then was able to get a job as a waitress at the Rainbow Café which were both across the street from the Craig Conoco Station. Those jobs proved to be fateful, as she soon caught the eye of Carl Chapman who worked at Conoco. Soon they were dating and were married on August 16, 1959 at the First Christian Church.
To their union came three children, Carl Kim, Carleen Kay and James Boyd (J.B.). Fredonne loved being a mom and what a great mom she was! Once J.B. started school, Fredonne took a position at East Elementary as a teacher’s aide.
In 1976, she began keeping books for Valley Chevron which Carl and his partner Ron Raschke had purchased. After selling their interest in the business to Ron in 1984, they decided to enter an “early retirement” which lasted all of one year. In 1985, they opened Chapman’s Automotive Service Center, first in a rented shop on 4th Street and after a couple years moved the business to its current location on Victory Way. Carl and Fredonne sold their business to J.B. in 2000, opting to “retire” to their place on the NW side of Cedar Mountain, while managing the Cathey family homestead on Big Gulch until it was sold in 2015.
In 1976, she and Carl became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which they attended throughout the remainder of their lives, serving in numerous capacities in their local congregation. Mom was very devout and at her passing many whom she had served referred to her as an “angel”, and her family agreed with that description.
Carl passed away on February 22, 2024 and his funeral was held on March 1, 2024, a year to the day from Fredonne’s passing.
Fredonne is survived by her children, Kim (Conna), Monroe, Utah; Carleen (Pete) and J.B. (Paula), Craig; 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, with another arriving in April. As well as her sister, Carolyn (Dean) Eaton, Taylor, Arizona; brother, Dean (Maggie) Cathey, Gilbert, Arizona; brother-in-law Mike (Sharon) Chapman, Craig; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Fredonne was preceded in death by husband Carl, her parents, her husbands’ parents Boyd and Winifred Chapman, a great granddaughter, Kwynn Allen, a niece Janine Stehle-Doehling and a nephew, David Cathey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing for family and friends will be held at 9:00 a.m. until service time.

Jay Alan Chapman 1958-2025
Jay Alan Chapman, late of Tulsa, OK, passed away quietly at age 66, at the Clarehouse Hospice Center on March 12, 2025 after his fight with lung cancer. Born on July 19, 1958 in Stoneham, MA, Jay lived his childhood years in Wakefield, MA where he graduated from high school in 1976. These years were filled with fun and happy times with his close friends Norman, Bobby, Jimmy, Steve and his special friend Carol. These friendships lasted until the end of Jay's life.
High school was when Jay met his future wife Carol (Spellman) at the horse barns of Weiss Farm in Stoneham, MA. They continued to ride horses throughout their life together as they raised their three children Aaron, Kara and Joel in Marshfield, MA - and then moved "out west" to Oklahoma. It was here that they embraced the western life style, with Jay and Carol building horse barns, riding the rodeo and the like.
Jay was funny and sharp witted - always looking for an opportunity to make people laugh. He was the one to design and execute the "practical joke" for all to enjoy - especially if the joke was on one of his brothers or sister. Sometimes the joke was on himself; like the time his dog ate all of the Thanksgiving day pies cooling on the back hallway stairs that his mother had spent hours making- no pie for Jay that day.
Jay was a good man, who took care of his family up until his last day here. He is already missed by those who know him and love him - and we really cannot believe he is no longer here with us. Jay was pre-deceased by Clifford and Ruth Chapman, his mother and father. Jay leaves behind his former wife Carol (Spellman) Chapman, and his children Aaron, Joel and Kara (Replogle); as well as his grandchildren Brayden, Brodie, Gabe and Andrew; and his cherished friend David Johnson.
He is also survived by his sister Kim (her husband Mike Murphy is deceased) and his brothers and wives: Neil and Chrissie, Ken and Carol, Clif and Sheila; as well as many nieces and nephews. We all miss him so very much. Jay was a very special person, with a savant-like musical ability to sit down at a piano to play and sing- as well as create anything that he needed; whether it be a horse barn, or to paint a picture for a stairway. He added so much to so many lives.
All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jay's name to the:
Clarehouse Hospice Center 7617 S Mingo Road, Tulsa, OK, 74133 (tel) 918-893-6150.

Ronald Lee Chapman 1935-2025
Ronald Lee Chapman left this world on March 9, 2025, having lived out his final years at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa.
Ron was son to Harold and Lucille, brother to Carol and Sandy, husband to Rose, brother-in-law to Arthur and Sue, father to Jay, father-in-law to Megan, and grandfather to Noah.
Born on May 5, 1935, Ron was granted just shy of 90 years of life following his birth, and he will be missed by those who are left to grieve his death.
Being born and raised in central Wisconsin, Ron was a Wisconsinite at heart. Growing up near the Wisconsin River, Ron enjoyed what winter had to offer. He and his little sisters skated on the river when it turned to ice. He also liked skiing on the snow at such places as Iverson Park in Stevens Point or at Rib Mountain, north of his hometown. During the warmer months, Ron often rode his bike, something he continued to do well into adulthood. Ron was also a music man. He was a talented and skilled piano player, and he knew the tune and the words of many a song by heart. He played often for others, and many were blessed by his music.
Ron married Rose Marie Hoehn in the summer of 1974, and the two celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2024. Shortly after the birth of their grandson, Ron and Rose moved to Iowa to be closer to family. Ron’s employment varied throughout his working years, but the most notable may be the time during which he and Rose worked together at “Jefferson House,” a group home on Jefferson Street in Stevens Point in the 1980s. There they lived and served as the on-site, full-time care providers for mentally disabled men and women. Volunteering was something that Ron did in his retirement years, including helping as a foster grandparent within the Carroll Community School District.
Honor is certainly owed to the “St. Anthony Army” (the many employees within various departments) who served Ron in an excellent and caring manner over the last several years, both at St. Anthony Regional Hospital and at St. Anthony Nursing Home. The family sincerely expresses deep gratitude for what these women and men did for Dad.
But above all, God himself deserves our thanks, for what do we have that has not ultimately come to us from our Creator? So, thank you, God, for giving to Ron life, and breath, and music, and all things. Thank you, God, that you loved him and did everything necessary for his sins against You to be forgiven so that he could have life beyond this earthly existence–life beyond the grave–life forever with You.
Thank you, Jesus of Nazareth, for coming into this world and dying in Dad’s place for all of his sins, and then rising from the dead, never to die again. Thank you, Jesus, for loving Dad that much. Thank you, for giving yourself as the once-for-all sacrifice which could completely and forever take away Ron’s sin before a holy God.
Thank you, Father, that this pardon and this life forever with you is something that you freely offered to Dad as he heard the Gospel (the good news of Jesus’ death in our place for our sins followed by His resurrection). Thank you that Dad was given the opportunity to turn from his sin and trust in Jesus to receive this free gift of eternal life.
Thank you, Father, for the many gifts you gave to Ron, and thank you for the gift he was to us. Thank you, Father, for the greatest gift of all, your crucified and resurrected Son, who loved us and died to take away our sins.
A graveside service will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Carroll City Cemetery. No visitation or other services are scheduled. Family and friends are welcome to attend the graveside service.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Ron’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Carol Deane Chapman Gold 1941-2025
June 17, 1941 ~ March 2, 2025
Carol Deane Chapman Gold was born on June 17, 1941 in Farmington, Utah to Barney B. and Eugenia Chapman. In her youth she lived in Salt Lake City, Bountiful, Centerville, and West Virginia, where her father served in the military. She lived in Mountain Green, Utah from fourth grade until 9th. Most of her growing up memories came from Mountain Green....a big farm house with the chickens, cow, horse, goats, ducks, and a dog named "Lassie". Her family then moved to Centerville, Utah, where she attended and graduated from Bountiful High School, where she participated in pep club, debate team and Model United Nations. To earn extra money, she did a lot of babysitting and also worked in the orchards picking fruit (peaches, pears, apricots, grapes, etc.) Carol is the first child born in a family of eleven children.
During her senior year at Bountiful, she attended night classes at a Comptometer School, and was able to start working at the Safeway Stores, Inc. Regional Office as a comptometer operator (that was before calculators and computers). Later, after she and her husband moved to BYU Provo, she became a meat wrapper for Safeway grocery store, until she was hired to work in the BYU Library. After the birth of her first child, Shauna, she was able to stay home and be a mom....but she babysat several other children in her home to help make ends meet.....even operating "Gold'n Garden Preschool" out of her home for a few years. She loved being a wife and mother....and then a grandmother....and then a great grandmother!
After her last child, Matt, was in school, she went to ISU Applied Technology and brushed up on her secretarial and computer skills and was hired to work for School District 25, starting at New Horizon High School, then Kinport Academy, and finally at the new Century High school. She loved working with the youth, teachers, and staff!
Shortly after graduating from Bountiful High School, Carol met her new Sunday school teacher, a handsome young man whose family had moved into the ward while he was serving a mission in Germany. After a year and a half of dating, Carol and Robert (Bob) were married in the Salt Lake Temple by then-apostle Harold B. Lee. They were married for 51 years before his passing.
Their life together was an adventure! They lived in Bountiful, Provo, Preston, Idaho, and then to Pocatello, where her husband taught at ISU during the school year, and Craters of the Moon during the summer. After Bob and Carol's retirement, they were able to serve a mission together in the New York Rochester Mission.....it was a dream come true! To serve the Young Single Adults, teaching Institute classes, having fun and spiritual activities, and preparing lots of food and treats for the YSA's, and being in the heart of the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After their mission, they were able to travel to South Africa to pick up their son, Matt, from his mission.
After Bob's passing in 2012, Carol had many opportunities to travel, mostly with her sisters Jill and Jeanne. She felt very fortunate to be able to enjoy so many different cultures and beautiful places.
Carol has served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints., in the Ward and Stake, with children, youth, and adults. She served as an ordinance worker and a coordinator in the Idaho Falls Temple. She served in the Pocatello Temple. She loved every calling in the Church she received, and enjoyed the people she served with.
Preceding Carol in death are her parents, her husband and eternal companion Robert S. Gold, granddaughter Kendra and her sisters, Shirley and Susan.
Carol is survived by her children: Shauna Myler, Kristine (Eric) Gardner, Curtis Gold, Lance (Andrea) Gold, Carri (Shea) Weaver, Dustin (Chandra) Gold, Matt (Emily) Gold; 27 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

David had a rare zeal for life and sense of adventure. An avid scuba diver, he was a multi-year spear fishing rodeo champion who loved going offshore with friends and looking for the big fish. He acquired his passion for the great outdoors at an early age, hunting and camping with his father Harry and brother Michael. He selflessly devoted himself to caring for others, in particular his parents, his father-in-law Ted, and his wife Ellen. He deeply valued his friendships and maintained close lifelong relationships. He was someone who loved to be productive and helpful. The protective drill sergeant with the booming voice had an unexpected soft side. Deeply knowledgeable about plants and flowers, David was dedicated to maintaining his garden and farm. He had a joy that was undeniable and contagious. Cena Marthene Chapman 1924-2025
INDIANA - Cena Marthene Chapman, 101, of Morristown, and most recently of Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Born on February 21, 1924, in Van Buren Township, Shelby County, she was the youngest of five children born to Harry B. and Mary (Winton) Cole. She married Paul E. Chapman in Paris, Texas, on July 29, 1945, while he was stationed there for basic training at Camp Maxey with the U.S. Army. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2008.
Cena attended grade school at Jericho and then Morristown High School, graduating co-valedictorian in 1942. During the war, she worked at Kennedy Carliner (KCL) in Shelbyville and helped her parents on the farm. After the war, she and Paul moved to the Brown Farm on the Shelby/Hancock county line in the Morristown area, then in 1951 relocated to the farm that Paul’s family had homesteaded. She took an active part in the farming operation, especially the dairy.
Cena was active in the Fountaintown Christian Church since her youth, baptized on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1941. She was a member of the Mite Society there and a longtime Sunday School teacher of the younger children.
A charter member of the Van Buren Township Jolly Members 4-H Club, she later was a co-leader of the Hanover Handy Maids 4-H Club. She also was an active member of school organizations while her children were in school and attended their programs and events, as well as those of her grandchildren later on.
It was only natural Cena would join the Merry Mixers EH Club, since she was a talented, hard-working domestic engineer. She was a great cook and baker, often tweaking or concocting recipes to her liking and almost always cooking from scratch. She preserved produce from her garden and from fruit trees belonging to her or others, plus gave her surplus away to friends and neighbors. Nothing went to waste. She was also a skilled seamstress, even designing her own creations when a pattern was not available.
Cena enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. At age 88, she downsized her gardens to smaller ones, which she maintained until age 92 and potted plants until age 98. She mowed her yard on the rider until May 2022. Hummingbirds were a great source of entertainment and interest in her later years.
Throughout much of her life, Cena had little time for sports on television. That changed when she retired. She enjoyed watching IU basketball and the Colts. However, neither of those teams could generate the zeal she had for the Pacers.
She enjoyed roller skating in her younger years, took up bowling when she retired, and Carrom and euchre were favorite games throughout her life. Even until recently, players wanted Cena for their euchre partner, since more often than not, they would win the game. She played trumpet in the orchestra in high school, and occasionally in later years would play a tune, usually a hymn, on it or on the piano, the latter on which she had no formal lessons.
Cena was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers, Max Cole and Paul Cole, and her sisters, Alice Rush and Lucy Smith.
The last of her generation on both sides of her family, Cena is survived by her children: Paula (Mark) Nigh of Shelbyville, and Kevin (Aimee) Chapman of Carthage; grandchildren: Carmen (Andrew) Hawk, Carey Nigh, Ryan (Kaitlin) Nigh, Jason (Christa) Chapman, Justin (Denelle) Chapman, Cole (Heather) Chapman; great-grandchildren: Jacob, Abigail, and Graham Hawk; Reagan, Josephine, Beau, and Hazel Nigh; Trinity and Gavin Chapman; Chase, Jameson, Hanna, and Carson Chapman; and Conner and Braxton Chapman.
Visitation will be at Freeman Family Funeral Home, Frazier Chapel 124 E. North St., Morristown, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 1, with the funeral, officiated by Pastor Joshua Hahn, immediately following at noon. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery, Morristown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fountaintown Christian Church, P.O. Box 87, Fountaintown, IN. 46130 or Hancock Regional Foundation for Suburban Hospice, 801 N. State St., Greenfield, IN. 46140. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary.

William Chapman, England, b. 1633 question
I was trying to get in touch with an Edward Krimmer, member, who seems to be in charge of the William Chapman, b. in England in 1633. There seems to be some misinformation in this line. I had submitted my line several years ago, which was correct. How can I get some of this straightened out? Thank you, Janet Buchanan #702

IOWA - Karen Rosalee Oester Chapman, R.N. ended her trip down the slippery slope of dementia on Friday February 21 at Henry County Health Center. She was 85. Karen was born on the “real” Memorial Day (May 30) in 1939 in Elk Lick Township, Pennsylvania. The Township is in southern Somerset County and also is the home of Mount Davis, the highest point in Pennsylvania, named for her maternal Great-Grandfather, Civil War Veteran John Nelson Davis.
A 1957 graduate of Somerset High School, she graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1960. Early the following year Karen wed George Chapman, who she had met while a nursing student and he was serving in the United States Army.
Three children followed in rapid succession, cutting her nursing career short and making her a full-time stay-at-home mom.

The next fifteen-year slot was filled with the operation of a bed and breakfast in Murray, Kentucky. Following that they returned to Silverton for six years and moved to Mount Pleasant in 2010 to be closer to family.
Karen is survived by her husband, George, sons Grant (Dianna) of Jefferson City, Missouri, Tod, and daughter Jill, both of Mount Pleasant; three grandchildren, Dawn Yearington (Jake) of Westline, Missouri, Geordan Chapman of Itasca, Illinois and Emma (Tyler) Davis of Verona, Wisconsin; and three great grandchildren.
Although she only spent a short time pursuing her chosen career of nursing, Karen spent a lifetime of kind and considerate care of others. She volunteered every time she was asked, and often before she was asked. Among the range of tasks Karen undertook were, Cub Scout Den Mother, teaching ESL to migrant farm workers in Kentucky, Home Hospice visitor, Meals on Wheels delivery, ambulance driver (on wintery Colorado roads), and more. In 2000 she was singled out by the Four Rivers Behavioral Health organization (in Kentucky) for six years of dedicated service to that organization.
Church was important for Karen and she not only served on many boards and committees at the churches she attended in various locations. She sang in the choir at most and played piano for services as needed. She served at least two terms as Moderator of the First Congregational Church in Silverton.
Care and cremation are being handled by Kimzey Funeral Home. No local services are planned. Interment will be at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Silverton, Colorado.

Though he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Claire Chapman, Chris's memory will continue to live on through the stories and laughter he leaves behind. He was a man who approached life with a rare combination of humor and heart. His ability to find the funny in the mundane, to approach every challenge with a positive spirit, and to infuse every moment with love made him a cherished soul in the eyes of many.
Chris's life was a testament to the power of passion. Whether he was discussing his favorite baseball team, sharing anecdotes from his radio days, or delving into the latest digital innovations, he did it with an enthusiasm that was both inspiring and contagious. He was the kind of person who not only brought smiles to the faces of his friends and family but also left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
In remembering Chris, we recall a man who was the epitome of kindness, a storyteller who could captivate any audience, and a friend who was always there when you needed him. His laughter will echo in the hearts of those who loved him, and his spirit will remain a guiding light for his family.
Chris Chapman's life was filled with joy, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to the things and people he loved. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he has made on our lives and the countless memories we hold dear. Chris's legacy is one of love, laughter, and passion, and it is through these gifts that he will continue to be remembered and cherished.
As the sun sets on Chris's earthly journey, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever be a part of the lives he touched. He was a one-of-a-kind individual whose memory will be treasured by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in peace, Chris—you will forever be in our hearts.
