William S. Chapman was born 1 April 1810 probably in Caroline County, Va. His parents or close relatives were Abner Chapman b. about 1781 in Virginia, who married Phoebe Carter (daughter of George Carter and Francis Diana Goodloe) 13 March 1809. This Chapman family moved to Christian County, Kentucky by 1830 and then to Woodford County, Kentucky by 1850. Between 1855 and 1858 William S. Chapman moved his family to Clinton County, Missouri and he and his wife are buried in the Lilly Cemetery there. His youngest daughter Margaret Ann Chapman married Pryor Donalphin Ditto and they moved to Lincoln County, Oklahoma in the 1880’s.
