I have a brick wall in determining the parents of my 2nd GG, Calvin Chapman. Looking for any CFA members with NY State ancestors who may have a connection. He was supposedly married to Huldah Griswold of VT although I've never been able to verify this fact that is promoted in Ancestry & Family Search. 5/13/2025.

I have looked extensively at Chapmans in this area because my great grandmother lived in Madison Co. NY until 1840. Most people think she was a child of Stephen Chapman 1771-1849 & his wife Sally Williams. I think this is incorrect, however, this Stephen Chapman has a son, Stephen Jr. b. 1797. This would fit in the birthing order nicely
Stephen Sr. is the son of Nathaniel Chapman 1742 Cranston RI-1820 Paris, Oneida Co., NY. I saw that a Stephen Chapman is on the 1855 Paris census as was a Calvin Chapman. The progenitor of this family is William Chapman/Eliz. Smith of CT. The lineage proceeds with Wm. Chapman/Ann Jenks CT next Stephen 1711 CT-1770 CT/ Zerviah Sanger; Nathaniel Chapman 1742 RI-1820 Paris NY/ Phebe Rhodes who had Stephen 1771 RI-1849 Otsego Co., NY. Families rarely moved to another state without other family members following so I thought this might be a good clue for you. I don't have a complete list of Stephen sr.'s family; Stephen 1897, Rhodes 1808 (too much of a gap between Stephen & Rhodes) & James 1815.
My gg grandmother was Sarah Chapman 1804 CT & died 1897 in Milwaukee WI. She md. John Elsworth (or Aylesworth). Hope this helps you with your search.
