Looking for parents of John Chapman born 1764 (perhaps Rhode Island) d 1817 Rensselaer County NY, His will and that of his son John Jr appear here. Have John's military records from Westchester County NY-- served with Thadeus Crane as quartermaster and also as ensign. Westchester Regiment also include Captain Benjamin, Stephen and Daniel Chapman. Stephen and Benjamin appear in records of Salem, Westchester County Church of Christ along with Isreal and Martha Sears Chapman. John Chapman owned farms in Rensselaer and Essex County NY. His wife was Mary Jane Nichols. Benjamin and Stephen both settled in Saratoga County across the Hudson from John. Daniel Chapman has his own DAR chapter and is connected to Robert Chapman of Saybrook.

Any help appreciated.

Hi, John

Very happy to hear from you. Your description of Nathaniel Chapman of Rensselaer County is spot-on; he is my supposed Gr-Gr-Gr Grandfather, but I can't conclusively prove it. My question is...where dod you see that tree you mentioned? It's very accurate.

I would love tp talk to you, if you don't mind. You can reach me in Clinton, NY at 315-223-1517. By the way, I live about five miles from the Town of Paris and know exactly where the Paris Nathaniel Chapmans are buried..

Thanks for the help.

Thornton, I am Margie Puckett Barton, my grandmother was Lula Rebecka Chapman for Saluda County, SC. She married Oliver Allen Puckett, we may be related. I need to do some research to make sure. Sorry I am late in replying but just checked my Chapman, also my Chapman is connected to Forrest, Watson, Turner and Jackson for the Saluda County area.

My email is mpkbarton@augustagensociety.org please contact me when you have a minute.

Thanks, Margie Puckett Barton

Info search, Giles Mathis Chapman

I obviously have very little skill in genealogy. I am trying to confirm the parents of Giles Mathis Chapman, born abt 1796 in Newberry county, SC. Died abt 11Dec1865 in Crawford, GA. I am also trying to determine if Gil’s Mathis’ son was Louis or Lewis Otis Chapman, born abt 1829 in GA. Thanks for any help you can provide. Willgetsmail@gmail.com

I see your dilemma. Searching the CFA on South Carolina and Georgia Chapman lines might be of help. In researching, starting with latest documented records, looking for clues in them and going backwards has worked for me and others. Wish I could be of more help.
